Pelvic Floor Physical Therapy Blog Series: It’s Not Just for Pregnant Women
Kelsie Mazur, DPT
Hi, I’m Kelsie! You probably know me as one of the Doctors of Physical Therapy at Wattage, but here’s something you might not know: I specialize in treating pelvic floor dysfunction. The pelvic floor, you know, those muscles you rarely think about… until they start causing trouble.
I’m kicking off this blog series to demystify pelvic floor physical therapy and to show that it’s not just for prenatal or postpartum women. You don’t have to be pregnant or ever have been to benefit from pelvic floor care. Men, women, and people of all ages can experience pelvic floor issues, sometimes without even realizing it.
So what kinds of things do I treat? Here are some of the big ones:
Urinary leakage or incontinence (it is more common than you think!)
Pelvic pain or pressure
Pain with intercourse
Post-surgical or post-injury recovery
Pelvic prolapse
Diastais Recti
Low back pain
C-section scar tissue release and recovery
Pelvic floor therapy isn’t just about exercises. We work on muscle strength, flexibility, coordination, and function, so you can move, laugh, run, or jump without discomfort and get back to doing life confidently.
Over the next few weeks, I’ll break down what a pelvic floor physical therapy session actually involves, including how we assess muscle strength, coordination, and flexibility. I’ll also share simple, safe exercises you can do at home to support your pelvic floor, strategies to manage common symptoms like leakage or pelvic pain, and practical tips for maintaining pelvic floor health in your daily life. This pertains to you whether you’re sitting at a desk, running, or just going about your day.
Trust me, it’s super interesting and I promise, no awkward anatomy lectures.
Stay tuned!
